SLU Inauguration Event Centerpieces Include Canned Goods Donated To Pantries
CANTON - Centerpieces that adorned tables during the celebration of the Inauguration of St. Lawrence University President William L. Fox contained something special that is being shared with the community.
In keeping with the weekend's theme, Celebrate the Authentic St. Lawrence Experience, the centerpieces contained non-perishable foods, along with this message: "St. Lawrence honors its role in the community and seeks to assist its neighbors in many ways. In our Inauguration planning, we wanted to use the resources we might have dedicated to beautiful, but disposable, flowers for a more meaningful contribution. The centerpieces from this evening's dinner contain non-perishable foods we will donate to local community pantries after the weekend."
Student volunteers, including Amanda Mooney '11, of Buffalo, NY; Courtney Tennant '10, of Hood River, OR; and Allyssa Kilanowski '10, of Campton, NH, packed up the canned goods following the weekend's events and delivered them to the food pantry at the Third Floor Thrift Store on Main Street in Canton. Chrysanthemums from the centerpieces were delivered to the United Helpers Home in Canton.
