SLU'S COUNSELING DIRECTOR RECEIVES STATE AWARD

CANTON - William B. Burns, director of counseling services at 
St. Lawrence University, received the 2002 Outstanding Program 
Award presented by the New York State Counseling Association at 
their annual conference.
	The award was for the University's Alcohol Initiative, 
headed by Burns, which includes a variety of programs aimed at 
reducing high-risk alcohol use by students. 
	Each year, the New York State Counseling Association 
recognizes exemplary professional performance and service, and 
the service of individuals, chapters and divisions, by presenting 
awards in a variety of categories. Nominees for the Outstanding 
Program Award are judged on the content of the program, as well 
as its creativity, uniqueness, publicity, publications and 
evaluations by participants.
	Burns joined the St. Lawrence staff in 2000. He is a 
graduate of the University of Minnesota, with a master's degree 
from Truman State University and Ph.D. from Iowa State University.
