SLU SLATES TALK ON WEST AFRICAN COUNTRY BURKINA FASO

CANTON - A talk on "Graphic Patterns and Spirit Associations 
in Burkina Faso" will be given at St. Lawrence University by 
Christopher Roy, professor of art history and associate dean 
for international studies at the University of Iowa in Iowa 
City, on Monday, October 28, at 7:30 p.m. in Room 123 of 
Griffiths Arts Center. The event is open to the public, free 
of charge.
	Experienced as a museum curator, professor and author, 
Roy is the author of The Art of Burkina Faso and has published 
extensively on African art. He is a 1970 graduate of St. Lawrence. 
Several years ago, Roy developed an ambitious CD-ROM program 
titled "Art and Life in Africa: Recontextualizing African Art 
in the Cycle of Life," that was created for college use and 
then adapted under NEH funding for high school levels. Roy 
was the recipient of a 1985 Senior Research Grant, 
Fulbright-Hays Program, a 1991 NEH grant and a 1989 Smithsonian 
Institution Fellowship.
