SLU SETS MAJOR-PARTY DEBATE WITH BUCHANAN, TOWNSEND

CANTON – A debate on the major political parties' respective platforms for 
this year's presidential election, featuring Bay Buchanan and Kathleen Kennedy 
Townsend, will take place at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, October 5, 
at 7:30 p.m. in Gulick Theatre, Griffiths Arts Center. The event is open to 
the public, free of charge, but tickets are required. Tickets will be 
available to students, faculty and staff at the main desk of the Student 
Center from September 22 through 28, and beginning September 29 to the 
general public.
      The event is sponsored by the John F. O'Loughlin Leadership Series 
Endowment at St. Lawrence.
	Political commentator for CNN, adjunct professor of political 
communication at George Mason University and veteran of six presidential 
campaigns, Buchanan appears weekly on CNN's "Inside Politics." She was 
also the co-host of CNBC's political talk show "Equal Time," and has been 
a political analyst for "Good Morning America" and MSNBC. Buchanan also hosted 
the national talk-radio program "Live with Bay Buchanan."
	Maryland's first female lieutenant governor, Townsend was also a 
deputy assistant attorney general in the United States Department of Justice, 
and is the founder of the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award. She serves on 
the board of directors of the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation, and is an 
adjunct professor at Georgetown University's School of Public Policy. 
In addition, Townsend has served as president of Operation Respect, an 
organization dedicated to teaching children personal and social responsibility.
