CANTON - The Friends of Owen D. Young and Launders Libraries at
St. Lawrence University will hold a celebration on Friday, March 29,
at 4 p.m. in the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library for
Lewis Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures Gudrun Brokoph.
Brokoph will speak about her books Ingeborg Bachmann: Neue Richtungen
in der Forschung? and Thunder Rumbling At My Heels: Tracing
Ingeborg Bachmann at the event, which is open to the public.
Ingeborg Bachmann: Neue Richtungen in der Forschung? ("Ingeborg
Bachmann: New Directions in the Research?") is a compilation of the
proceedings of a colloquium held in Saranac Lake in 1991 on the works
of Bachmann, the most prominent Austrian woman writer of the 20th
century; the volume was edited by Brokoph.
Thunder Rumbling At My Heels: Tracing Ingeborg Bachmann was
edited and includes an introduction by Brokoph. The book presents research
and analysis of a cross-section of Bachmann's work, ranging from her
poetry to her essays, radio plays, short stories and novels as well as
the film adaptation of her novel Malina.
Brokoph has been a member of the St. Lawrence faculty since 1973.
She is a graduate of the University of Missouri and earned her master's
degree and Ph.D. at the University of California - Davis.
