'PIGGYBACK ART' ON VIEW IN SLU'S BRUSH GALLERY

CANTON - "Piggyback" works by self-taught E-Bay artist Eddie
Breen will be on exhibition in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery
at St. Lawrence University from November 7 through December
20. A "Breenapalooza," with the artist in residence, will be
held Thursday and Friday, November 14 and 15, from noon to
5 p.m. in the gallery.
Scrounging through flea markets and church bazaars, Breen
finds old paintings that he finds "boring" or "incomplete"
and "transform[s] the clumsy work of others into his own
brand of 'Breen,'" according to Coco McCabe of The Boston
Globe. Calling it "piggyback art," he adds a cheerful
"+ EDDIE" to each canvas and posts the paintings on the
Internet auction Web site E-Bay. Breen has sold over 300 of
his pieces through the site to date.
The exhibition is comprised of works from the collection
of Murray Randle, of Granbury, Texas, and is curated by Brush
Gallery Director Catherine Tedford.
For more information or to arrange individual or group
tours, contact the gallery at 315-229-5174.
