JOURNALIST BEN BRADLEE TO SPEAK AT SLU

CANTON -- Benjamin C. Bradlee, editor-at-large of The Washington Post,
will be the keynote speaker at St. Lawrence University's Homecoming
Weekend celebration.
Bradlee's talk will be on Friday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m.
in Gunnison Memorial Chapel. The event is open to the public; free
tickets -- available at the E.J. Noble University Center desk and
Brewer Bookstore -- are required.
	The Washington Post's long-time (1968-1991) executive editor
and current editor-at-large, Bradlee is a graduate of Harvard University
and a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in World War II in the
Pacific Theater. He began his career in journalism after the war,
reporting for Newsweek before joining The Washington Post. An eyewitness
to most of the seminal events of our time, Bradlee interacted with and
reported on most of the "heroes and villains who were making such vivid
history so fast."
Bradlee and his reporters redefined the way news is reported,
published and read; his leadership and investigative drive following the
break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters at the Watergate
Hotel led to the downfall of President Richard M. Nixon 25 years ago.
Under his leadership, the newspaper became a world-renowned and respected
model of innovative journalism. Bradlee is the author of his memoir
A Good Life: Newspapering and Other Adventures.
His talk is part of the Homecoming Weekend celebration at
St. Lawrence; for more information, contact University communications,
315-229-5585.
