A List 2/12/00 SLU BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETS CANTON -- The St. Lawrence University Board of Trustees held its winter meeting on campus on Saturday, February 12. Included in their actions were the following: Honorary Degree Recipients At Commencement ceremonies to be held May 21, 2000, honorary degrees will be granted to Tracey McNamara, a 1976 graduate of St. Lawrence and a veterinary pathologist at the New York Wildlife Conservation Society, whose investigations last fall into the high death rate of crows near Bronx Zoo led to the discovery of a new variant of the encephalitis virus in New York; Tantoo Cardinal, a Native Canadian actress who has appeared in many films and television shows, including the film Legends of the Fall; and the Alexander String Quartet, of San Francisco, who are artists-in-residence at the University. Residence Hall Refurbishing The Board approved allocating $2 million, to be used over the next two years, to refurbishing the University's residence halls. The funds will be used for painting, replacement of carpeting in public areas, refurnishing rooms and refurnishing public spaces. Tuition and Fees The Board approved an increase in the comprehensive fee (tuition, room and board) of 3.75 percent, from $30,110 to $31,240.
