'Blood Is The New Black' Exhibition In SLU's Brush Gallery
CANTON - An installation by artist Jason Lujan titled "Blood Is the New Black"
will be on exhibition in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence
University from January 24 through March 14.
Lujan will give a lecture on the work on Thursday, January 24, at 7 p.m. in
Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center; it is open to the public, free of charge.
An Apache, Lujan is from the West Texas city of Marfa. He states, "I actively
work as an artist to document Native American experiences within global
environments. Using all my senses to log every bit of data available, I seek
connections between Native cultures and the world at large. In doing so, I
create new associations and recode meanings to represent a hybridized Indian
identity within contemporary society. I constantly hear about Indians existing
'between two worlds,' to which my response is, 'Why stop at two? Why not three?
Why not 10?'"
The lecture is supported by the Jeanne Scribner Cashin Endowment for Fine Arts.
