Aspects of my teaching that students find most effective and interesting:

Undergraduate research opportunities

Some ways I connect with students outside the classroom:

My door is always open and I like to talk with my students

Examples of connections between my research and my teaching:

I frequently use the results of my research and student research as a teaching tool

My teaching philosophy:

I believe that teaching is much more than a classroom activity.  I invite my students to learn in the field and laboratory, and by taking on their own research projects.  I enjoy serving as a mentor on many projects, particularly those that allow undergraduate to have the experience of working in world-class analytical labs.

Ways I offer service to my discipline and/or the University:
Honorary Fellow of the Geological Society of America
Associate editor of the Journal of African Earth Sciences
Institutional Strategy and Assessment Committee
Examples of my work as a visiting scholar or guest at another institution:
Symposia Key Note Speaker, Critical Issues for the Arctic, Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa
Dissertation committee member for various international Universities (University of Pretoria, University of Ottawa, University of Jadavpur)
My current projects:
The Stream Chemistry of Adirondack Waterways
The Geochemistry and Provenance of New York Shales
Geology and Origin of the Adirondack Lowlands
