BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION PLANNED AT SLU

CANTON -- Black History Month will be celebrated at 
St. Lawrence University with a variety of performances, events 
and activities scheduled throughout the month of February.
	Highlights of the schedule follow:
	February 6: Opening ceremonies, 5:30 p.m., Sykes Common Room
	February 11: Poetry reading and discussion of the life of 
Langston Hughes, with Class of 1999 graduate Manulito Loman, assistant 
editor of The Challenger newspaper in Buffalo, New York; 7 p.m., 
Room 10, Carnegie Hall
	February 11: Performance by blues musician K.J. James, 
9:30 p.m., Java House
	February 11 & 12: Performances of the original musical 
Colorplay, 7:30 p.m., Gulick Theatre
	February 12: Award-winning poet, performer and educator 
Omani Abdullah, author of I Wanna Be The Kinda Father My Mother Was, 
8 p.m., Black Box Theatre
	February 16: Social critic Marcia Dyson speaking on "The Hand 
That Rocks The Cradle: Female Power in the 21st Century," 7:30 p.m., 
Gulick Theatre
	February 25: Communications consultant Brenda Verner speaking 
on "The Undeclared War Against Black Women," 8 p.m., Black Box Theatre
	February 28: Closing ceremonies, 7 p.m., Dean-Eaton Lounge
