'BELLE OF AMHERST' PERFORMANCE AT SLU RE-SCHEDULED

CANTON - A performance of the play The Belle of Amherst has been rescheduled
at St. Lawrence University, for Saturday, March 27, at 8 p.m. in the Black
Box Theatre, Griffiths Arts Center. The performance is open to the public,
free of charge.
The Belle of Amherst is a play based on the life of poet Emily
Dickinson; Janet Davies will perform the one-person show.
The play, by William Luce, explores the life of America's greatest
woman poet at various stages of her experience, from the age of 15 - when
she was full of hope and success - until her death at age 56, when she was
a virtual recluse. Dickinson's life is recreated with liberal excerpts from
her poetry, and with "Emily" playing the roles of her father, teacher and
friends.
Davies has over 40 years of acting and directing experience in
professional and local theatre. The performance is directed by Richard G.
Stein.
The original performance, scheduled earlier this month, had to be
postposed due to inclement weather. For more information, contact the speech
and theatre department at St. Lawrence, at 315-229-5192.
