PLAY BASED ON LIFE OF EMILY DICKINSON SLATED AT SLU

CANTON - The Belle of Amherst, a play based on the life of poet
Emily Dickinson, will be performed at St. Lawrence University on
Saturday, March 6, at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre, Griffiths
Arts Center. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
Janet Davies will perform the one-person show.
The Belle of Amherst, by William Luce, explores the life of
America's greatest woman poet at various stages of her experience,
from the age of 15 - when she was full of hope and success - until
her death at age 56, when she was a virtual recluse. Dickinson's life
is recreated with liberal excerpts from her poetry, and with "Emily"
playing the roles of her father, teacher and friends.
Davies has over 40 years of acting and directing experience in
professional and local theatre. The performance is directed by
Richard G. Stein.
