Alexander String Quartet At St. Lawrence Sept. 25-27

CANTON - The Alexander String Quartet will perform in concert at St. Lawrence University on Thursday, September 27, at 8 p.m. in Gulick Theater. The event is open to the public, free of charge.

The performance will include:
- String Quartet in F Major, KV 590, W.A. Mozart
- Bird Bird Bluebird, St. Lawrence Associate Professor of Music In-Sil Yoo
- O schöne nacht Quartet, Op. 92, No. 1, Johannes Brahms
- Winter Light, Michael Gandolfi (with The Laurentian Singers)
- String Quartet in B-flat Major, Op. 130 with the Grosse Fuge, Op. 133, Ludwig van Beethoven

In addition to this formal concert, the Alexander will also give an informal matinee performance, on Tuesday, September 25, at noon in Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall. At this performance, also open to the public free of charge, members of the Alexander will provide anecdotal commentary about works they perform, the lives of composers and their life as a quartet.

Prior to their St. Lawrence residency, they will be at the Crane School of Music in Potsdam, and give a performance on Monday, September 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Snell Theater that is open to the public, free of charge.

The Alexander String Quartet includes Zakarias Grafilo, violin; Frederick Lifsitz, violin; Paul Yarbrough, viola; and Sandy Wilson, cello. In 2000, the Alexander String Quartet received an honorary degree from St. Lawrence. While in residence at St. Lawrence, they will also visit classes in a variety of departments across the curriculum and hold workshops for music students.
