Alexander String Quartet At St. Lawrence October 28-31; Concert Oct. 30
CANTON - The Alexander String Quartet, St. Lawrence University's quartet-in-residence, will perform in concert on Thursday, October 30, at 7:30 p.m. in Eben Holden on campus. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
They will perform Beethoven's Op. 18, movement one; Riley's Mythic Birds Waltz; and Brahms' Op. 51, movement one.
In addition to this formal concert, the Alexander will also give an informal matinee performance, on Wednesday, October 29, at noon in The Underground, on the lower level of the Noble Center. At this performance, also open to the public free of charge, members of the Alexander will provide anecdotal commentary about the pieces, the composers and their life as a quartet.
The Alexander String Quartet, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006, includes Zakarias Grafilo, violin; Frederick Lifsitz, violin; Paul Yarbrough, viola; and Sandy Wilson, cello. In 2000, the Alexander String Quartet received an honorary degree from St. Lawrence. While in residence at St. Lawrence, they will also visit classes in a variety of departments across the curriculum and hold workshops for music students.
