ALEXANDER STRING QUARTET CONCERT AT SLU OCT. 25
CANTON - The Alexander String Quartet, St. Lawrence University's quartet-in-residence,
will perform in concert on Thursday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Gulick Theatre on
campus. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
The performance will include selections from John Coolidge Adams' "John's Book
of Alleged Dances," Beethoven's String Quartet No. 3 in D major (Opus 18, no. 3)
and Schubert's "Death and the Maiden."
In addition to this formal concert, the Alexander will also give an informal
matinee performance, on Tuesday, October 23, at noon in The Underground, on
the lower level of the Noble Center. At this performance, also open to the
public free of charge, members of the Alexander will provide anecdotal
commentary about the pieces, the composers and their life as a quartet.
The Alexander String Quartet, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2006,
includes Zakarias Grafilo, violin; Frederick Lifsitz, violin; Paul Yarbrough,
viola; and Sandy Wilson, cello. In 2000, the Alexander String Quartet received
an honorary degree from St. Lawrence. While in residence at St. Lawrence,
they will also visit classes in a variety of departments across the
curriculum and hold workshops for music students.
