ST. LAWRENCE HOSTS N.Y. ASIAN STUDIES CONFERENCE
CANTON - St. Lawrence University will host the New York Conference on Asian Studies
(NYCAS) on its campus Friday through Sunday, October 6 through 8. The conference
theme is "The Asian Subject: Negotiating Identity"; participants will discuss issues
including globalization, westernization, immigration, ethnicity, religion and
nationalism.
The conference program includes workshops for K-12 teachers, and panel
discussions on a variety of cultural, political and educational issues.
Presenters are from colleges and universities across the United States.
There will also be presentations and performances by St. Lawrence University
students.
The New York Conference on Asian Studies is among the oldest of the nine
regional conferences of the Association for Asian Studies (AAS), the largest
society of its kind in the world. NYCAS is represented on the Council of
Conferences, one of the sub-divisions of the governing body of the AAS,
and speaks for all persons interested in any branch of Asian studies in
New York State.
