ART & ARCHAEOLOGY TOPIC OF SLU TALK
CANTON - Brandeis University Emeritus Professor of Chemistry Michael Henchman, a specialist
in the intersection of science and art, will give a talk on "Forgery: The Forensics of Art
and Archaeology" at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, October 18, from 11:50 a.m. to 12:50
p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall, Room 218. The event is open to the public, free of
charge.
Henchman states, "Notwithstanding that art is art and science is science, art is
fashioned from materials, and the science of those materials betrays the origin of
the art and controls its destiny. The same is true for archeological specimens."
In his talk, Henchman will discuss forensic study in the case of the Vinland Map,
the topic of a recent "Nova" program.
