A List 1/12/01 SLU CUTS PRICE FOR APPLETON 50TH ANNIVERSARY PICNIC CANTON -- In an effort to include as many campus and community members as possible, St. Lawrence University has reduced the cost for attending the community picnic planned in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Appleton Arena by half. The picnic, scheduled for Saturday, January 20, at 5 p.m. in Eben Holden Dining Center on campus, will now be $12 per person. The event is part of a weekend of special events marking the 50th anniversary of Appleton Arena on the St. Lawrence University campus. The special weekend's schedule of events follows. All are open to the public, but some require tickets. Friday, January 19 - Men's ice hockey versus Vermont, 7 p.m., Appleton Arena Saturday, January 20 - "Reflections": Brian MacFarlane '55, member of the Athletic Hall of Fame, veteran broadcast journalist and author, will offer remarks beginning at 10 a.m. in the Appleton Hall of Fame Room. Best known for his television commentary with "Hockey Night In Canada" for some 25 years, McFarlane is an expert on hockey history. His latest book is a memoir, titled Brian McFarlane's World Of Hockey. - Men's and women's coed alumni hockey games, 2 p.m., Appleton Arena - All-campus picnic, 5 p.m., Eben Holden Dining Hall - Men's ice hockey versus Dartmouth, 7 p.m., Appleton Arena (Anniversary cake compliments of the Hockey Boosters) Advance registration for all events is requested, either by calling 315-229-5904, or online at http://web.stlawu.edu/ucomm/appleton.html. Tickets may be picked up in the E.J. Noble University Center Formal Lounge on Friday from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; all registrants will receive a commemorative poster.
