'Canada's Genocide' Topic Of Screening, Discussion At St. Lawrence
CANTON - A screening of the documentary film Unrepentant: Kevin Annett and Canada's
Genocide will be held at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, February 26, at 7 p.m.
in Room 123 of the Griffiths Arts Center, followed by a conversation with Annett.
The event is open to the public, free of charge.
The film won several awards at the 2006 New York Independent Film and Video
Festival. Based on Annett's book, Hidden from History: The Canadian Holocaust,
it details the treatment of aboriginal people in church-run Indian Residential
Schools, as well as Annett's efforts to hold the government and churches of
Canada accountable. Annett is a former minister of the United Church of
Canada, and in 2000, founded the Truth Commission into Genocide in Canada.
He now serves as minister of All Peoples' Church, a non-denominational
community church uniting native and non-native people in Vancouver, British
Columbia.
