A List 1/10/05 'SHARPIE' ARTWORK EXHIBITED IN SLU'S BRUSH GALLERY CANTON – "Permanent/Temporary Sharpie Drawings and Prints," an exhibition of work by Alicia Giuliani, program director at the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts in Blue Mountain Lake, will be in the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University from Monday, January 17, through Saturday, February 19. A discussion with Giuliani, a 2004 graduate of St. Lawrence, will take place in the gallery on Wednesday, January 26, at 7 p.m. The event is open to the public, free of charge. "What I'm interested in at the time is what my work is about," Giuliani has stated. "The work in this exhibition is comparable to a visual journal, inspired by and made for specific people in my life, in which I challenge the probability of normalcy in personal relationships...I use Sharpies exclusively because they are so consistent, allowing me to create the same types of marks throughout a body of work. They can also be used on a wide range of materials such as packing tape, bubble wrap, metal, Plexi[glass] and mirrors." Giuliani is a graduate of Hugh C. Williams High School in Canton and earned her degree at St. Lawrence in fine arts.
