LECTURE AT SLU SET ON 'INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE'

CANTON -- Taiaiake Alfred, a scholar known for his work on 
indigenous traditions of government and politics in Native American 
communities, will speak on "Indigenous Resistance: The Spirit and 
Power of Freedom," on Monday, November 5, at 7:30 p.m, in the 
Hepburn Auditorium (Room 218) at St. Lawrence University. The 
event is open to the public, free of charge.
	Alfred advises numerous nations on leadership and 
governance and is a senior advisor on land issues for the Mohawk 
Council of Kahnawake and the Carrier-Sekani Tribal Council. He 
is the author of Heeding the Voice of Our Ancestors: Kahnawake 
Mohawk Politics and the Rise of Native Nationalism (1995) and 
Peace, Power and Righteousness: An Indigenous Manifesto (1999). 
He lives in the Songhees nation territory, where he is director 
of the Indigenous Governance Programs at the University of 
Victoria.
