SLU Speaker Asks 'Can Whites Be A Part Of The Rainbow?'

CANTON - Syracuse University Professor Linda Martín Alcoff will give a talk at St. Lawrence University, titled "Can Whites Be A Part Of The Rainbow?," on Tuesday, October 14, at 8 p.m. in Eben Holden Conference Center. The event, which is the Kathryn Fraser Mackay Lecture and part of the Contemporary Issues Forum, is open to the public, free of charge.

Martín Alcoff is a professor of philosophy, women's studies and political science at Syracuse University, as well as director of women's studies. She works primarily in continental philosophy, epistemology, feminist theory, Latino philosophy and the philosophy of race. Martín Alcoff was named the Distinguished Woman in Philosophy for 2005 by the Society for Women in Philosophy, and in 2006 she was named one of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in the United States by Hispanic Business magazine. She is also the author of many books and scholarly articles.

The Mackay Lecture was established in memory of Kathryn Fraser Mackay '77 by her family, to honor her interests and spirit. Traditionally, coordination of the lectures alternates between the departments of philosophy and religious studies.
