29TH ANNUAL ADIRONDACK CONFERENCE PLANNED BY SLU

CANTON - St. Lawrence University will hold the 29th annual 
Adirondack Conference at the Canaras Conference Center, Upper 
Saranac Lake, Friday and Saturday, June 18 and 19. The conference 
provides a forum for local citizens and experts to discuss a broad 
range of issues pertinent to the Adirondack region.
	An evening of folk songs performed by North Country Public 
Radio's "Natural Selections" host Curt Stager begins the conference 
on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
	On Saturday at 9 a.m., Karen Roy, of the Adirondack Park 
Agency, and Bernard Melewski, an attorney for the Adirondack Council, 
will lead a discussion on acid rain and the Adirondack Park. At 
10:30 a.m., a discussion will be held on the High Peaks Management 
Plan, with Dave Gibson, of the Association for the Protection of the 
Adirondacks; Neil Woodworth, of the Adirondack Mountain Club; and Stu 
Buchanan, director of the New York State Department of Environmental 
Conservation's Region Five.
	At 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, David Ragentesi, field director of 
the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, will give a presentation on the 
return of the elk to New York State. At 3 p.m., participants will embark 
on a field trip to White Pine Camp, which served as the "summer White 
House" for President Calvin Coolidge.
	All are welcome to attend any portion of the conference, or the 
entire conference, free of charge; the field trip is limited to 25 
participants and sign-up will take place at the conference. A buffet 
lunch will be available for purchase.
