St. Lawrence Hosts Historian's Talk On Abraham Lincoln
CANTON - Historian David Gerleman, assistant editor for the Papers of Abraham Lincoln project, will give a talk titled "Have you seen A. Lincoln? Searching for Old Abe in the National Archives" on Thursday, November 5, at 4:30 p.m. in the Josephine Young Room of Owen D. Young Library at St. Lawrence University. The event is open to the public, free of charge.
The final product for the Papers of Abraham Lincoln project will be a freely accessible comprehensive electronic edition of documents written by and to Lincoln, as well as reports of his speeches and other writings, in three series. Once each series is complete and available to the public, users can view the images of the original documents or search the text of the transcriptions and annotations through a sophisticated search engine. On the print side, the project will produce multiple volumes of appropriately annotated transcriptions of Lincoln's writings and correspondence addressed to him. It is a project of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, co-sponsored by the Center for State Policy and Leadership at the University of Illinois Springfield and the Abraham Lincoln Association.
Gerleman has been an assistant editor on the project since 2008, after working for a year as a research associate. He is also a lecturer in history at George Mason University and Marymount University.
