SLU GLOBAL STUDIES MAJOR IS FOCUS OF JOURNAL ARTICLE

CANTON -- St. Lawrence University's Global Studies major is the
cover story in the Winter 2000 issue of Diversity Digest, a publication
of the Association of American Colleges and Universities.
The article on the program was written by Director of International
and Intercultural Studies Eve W. Stoddard and Associate Professor of
Philosophy Grant H. Cornwell, and is headlined "Pathbreaking Global Studies
Major Offers New Framework for Diversity Learning."
"The goal of the Global Studies Program is to teach students to
analyze comparatively the impact of global processes on specific phenomena
connected with, across and between geographical areas," the article states.
Included in the piece are descriptions of the program's core courses; a list
of required texts; a look at a collaborative living/learning project in
intercultural studies; and a piece about connecting study-abroad experiences
with diversity learning on campus.
The Association of American Colleges and Universities is the leading
national association devoted to advancing and strengthening liberal learning
for all students, regardless of academic specialization or intended career.
One of its five key priorities is establishing diversity as an educational
and civic priority.
