Woody Parker '09, left, with Canton EMS Member Peter Feickert,
St. Lawrence University director of budget and financial planning
Christopher "Woody" Parker '09, of Kansas City, MO, was named EMS Person of the
Year at the Canton Fire and Rescue Appreciation Night Banquet, held in October of 2009. Parker returned to the area from Kansas City to receive the honor.
While a student, Parker earned certification as an advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT-CC), was president of the student emergency medical squad and began training as a firefighter. Considering his involvement with Canton Fire and Rescue as a volunteer, the committee in charge of the annual honors recognized Parker's level of commitment to the Rescue Squad, including his reaching the highest level of training available locally, running ambulance calls, and being a senior member in charge of calls. In addition, Parker offered community CPR training at the fire station and organized the Rescue Squad's EMS week activities.
A sociology major with a European studies minor, Parker also was a student delegate to the Alumni Council.
