A forthcoming article by St. Lawrence University's Board of Trustees chair gives advice about getting beyond academe's "turf battles" and building a shared governance structure that works for all constituencies of a university.

E.B. Wilson '53, chair of the Board of Trustees, is the author of an article titled "Bridge-Building 101" that appears in the March/April issue of Trusteeship, a publication of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB). Wilson is a frequent contributor to the magazine.

"To achieve a high level of trust among constituents, board leaders must focus the best minds on the most critical issues of board engagement," Wilson writes. "However, trustees must also build a pattern of regular and continuous habits that tie together the countless facets of governance by communicating and coordinating across institutional boundaries."

Wilson will retire from the University's Board of Trustees July 1, having served for six years as chair and since 1985 as a trustee.
