Devon Energy Corporation has announced that William A. Van Wie '67
has been appointed to the new position of vice president and general
manager, exploration. He will be responsible for coordinating Devon's
global exploration activities. Van Wie was previously vice president
and general manager of Devon's Gulf Division. He will remain in Houston,
Texas.
Van Wie joined Devon
in 1999 following the company's acquisition of PennzEnergy, where he
served as senior vice president. He began his career with Tenneco and
was also employed by Chevron, Pennzoil and Amerada Hess. Van Wie is
treasurer of the American Geological Institute Foundation, a member
of the National Ocean Industries Association's Board of Directors,
vice chairman of the Independent Petroleum Association of America's
Offshore Committee and serves as a delegate for the American Association
of Petroleum Geologists. He graduated from St. Lawrence in 1967, majoring
in geology, and earned a master's and a doctoral degree in geology
from the University of Cincinnati.
While a student at St. Lawrence, Van Wie was a member of Sigma Alpha
Epsilon fraternity and the football team. As an alumnus, he has been
a career advisor and chair of his Reunion Development Committee. In
2000, the University received a gift from Van Wie to establish the
Harold Van Heusen Scholarship Endowment.
