St. Lawrence University's Washington Semester program has received
special recognition from American University, noting the successful
30 years of the institutions' partnership.
The recent American University/Washington Semester Program inter-institutional
meeting held in Washington, D.C. included a celebration of the
program's 60th anniversary. St. Lawrence, and its representative
Nancy Pierce, director of off-campus programs, received an award,
signed by the president of American University and the Dean of the
Washington Semester Program, stating, "We are pleased to present you
with this Special Recognition Award for your leadership in fostering
the continuing relationship between St. Lawrence University and the
Washington Semester Program. Since affiliation with the program in
1974, 520 students from your university have attended - the second-greatest
number of any of our institutional partners. Your stewardship of the
Washington Semester and the exacting standards required of the St. Lawrence
nominees are most appreciated by our faculty and staff."
In the fall 2007 semester, 13 St. Lawrence students participated in the
program; 15 are scheduled to participate in the Washington Semester in
spring, 2008.
Representatives from 60 institutions attended the event, at which
CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer was the keynote
speaker.
