The Center for International and
Intercultural Studies awarded grants for independent travel and
research to seven students, allowing all to pursue research in other countries.
Independent travel and research grants allow selected students to conduct research
abroad during the break between semesters.
Students awarded grants for the break between fall 2007 and spring 2008, with their
topics and research locations, are:
- Maria Fernanda Carcamo '08, of Honduras - Changes in the Honduran Agricultural
Sector due to the Dominican Republic and Central American Free Trade Agreement
(DR-CAFTA), Honduras
- Ashley Cutler '08, of Norwood, NY - The Rise of the Right: The Influences
of the Front National, France
- Eric Kinsey '09, of Tanzania - A Comparative Study of Tea Production between
China and Tanzania, Tanzania and China (latter portion to be completed in May '08)
- Peterson Maina '10, of Kenya - The Medical Plight of the Somali refugees in
Dadaab refugee camps, Kenya
- Rebekah McCluskey '09, of Potsdam, NY - The Commodification of Culture:
A Look at Yunnan Province's Ethnic Minorities, China
- Mihaela Sarova '09, of Bulgaria - How to Increase Motivation and Social
Responsibility among Bulgarian Adolescents: The Effects of Training Programs
in Romain Rolland Foreign Language High School in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria
- Thomas Simunovic '08, of Newton, MA - The Path to Reconciliation: The
Legacy of General Franco, Spain
