William Warburton '02, Mark Cannella '00, Andrew Smith '00 and Dan O'Connor '02 participated in the project, which involved venturing into the mountains to clear trees fallen across trails and camping areas. Bent, broken and uprooted trees made many trails impassable, and heavy rains created slides that pulled soil away from bedrock. In some areas, temporary trails were cut to allow access to areas that need to be cleared. Many areas in the High Peaks regions of the Adirondacks remain unaccessible now.
Cannella, Smith and O'Connor are all residents of the Outdoor Alternatives Theme House on campus, and Warburton lives in the "Greenhouse," a theme residence dedicated to raising environmental awareness and environmentally responsible living practices. |
