Timothy de la Bruere '04, of Newport, VT, has been named to the newly formed
Vermont Commission on Native American Affairs by Governor Jim Douglas.
The Commission was established in May of 2006, and appointments to the seven-member
group were announced in August. Commission members were selected from individuals
who were either recommended by Native American organizations or applied individually.
de la Bruere, whose St. Lawrence degree is in history, was a Presidential Diversity
Scholar and served as president of the Native American Student Organization.
While at St. Lawrence, de la Bruere completed course studies and an internship
on the Akwesasne reservation, where he studied interactions between Native and
non-Native governments. Also an Eagle Scout, he is an apprentice electrician
in Newport.
