Work by Dana Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures
Steven F. White has recently been published, in a new edition and in a journal.
The January 2011 issue of World Literature Today, published at the University of Oklahoma, features six translations by White of works by Nicaraguan poets Esthela Calderón and Rosario Murillo, the first lady of Nicaragua. The online version of the journal includes two of White's translations of poems by Calderón and audio of the poems in the original Spanish, in Calderón's voice.
In addition, the journal includes an essay by White, titled "Written on Earth and Water: Poetry and Ecology in Nicaragua".
White's edition of Pablo Antonio Cuadra's Siete árboles contra el atardecer y otros poemas, an anthology of poetry with ecological themes by Nicaragua's great poet who died in 2002 at age 90, has recently been published by Veintisiete Letras, a new publishing house in Madrid.
White is directing St. Lawrence's program of study in Spain for the 2010-2011 academic year.
