North Country Public Radio's David Sommerstein is the recipient of a 2008 National
Edward R. Murrow Award for journalism excellence from the Radio-Television
News Directors Association. His three-part report, "Farm to Farm, Family to Family,"
was judged Best News Series by a small-market station.
The series explores the
migration of Mexican and Central American farm workers in and out of
rural communities of New York, how migrants are affecting rural communities
and what the future may hold. In all, 54 news organizations were honored with
77 awards out of an initial pool of 3,459 entries from several hundred
news organizations, commercial and non-commercial.
Sommerstein's series was honored with a Regional Murrow Award for Best
News Series in April, as well as Best News Series and Best Enterprise
Reporting from the Associated Press in June.
