Reverend Shaun Whitehead
Associate Chaplain Shaun Whitehead has been selected to serve as a Chaplain-of-the-week
for the Chautauqua United Church of Christ Society. She will participate in the program in August of 2010.
Annually during the summer season, the Chautauqua UUC Society hosts nine clergy, with each serving a one-week residency. The organization owns three houses on the site; the Congregationalists were the first denomination to build a building in Chautauqua in the late 1800's when the Institution was founded.
Each Chaplain-of-the-Week delivers a Sunday morning sermon; provides a Thursday vesper service and has an opportunity to speak with Chautauqua Institution guests about any topic of his/her choosing. They also participate, if they choose, in the many concerts, lectures, worship services and arts events occurring at Chautauqua. Each week has a theme that frames the dialogue in the Institution for that week and offers well-known speakers to engage in various perspectives on the topic. The theme during Rev. Whitehead's week of residency is "Sacred Spaces."
