The documentary film Into Abyssinia, co-directed by O'Keefe Foster '11, premiered recently on campus and was also accepted into the Atlanta Film Festival; it was screened for the festival on April 21.
The film details the Selamta Project, an orphanage in Ethiopia. The students in St. Lawrence's Commons College have been working on the project, to increase awareness and also raise funds for the orphanage.
Commons College is a living and learning theme residence on campus. Students in the college are working with the nonprofit organization the Human Capital Foundation on the project, with a goal of raising $5,000, in order to help sponsor a home that will serve to reintegrate eight former orphans and one mother into a caring, extended family.
More information is available on the Selamta Project Web site, and Commons College
has established a Facebook Group for the project, as well.
