Visiting Instructor of Geology Sean Cornell was recently awarded the 2005 Margaret
Hawn Mirabile Memorial Best Student Paper Award by the American Association of
Petroleum Geologists(AAPG). His paper, entitled "Comparative Sequence Stratigraphy of the
Black River to Lower Trenton Group Interval (Upper Ordovician): Implications for
Climatic and Associated Faunal Changes," was co-authored with Carlton E. Brett
from the University of Cincinnati. Cornell presented the paper at the AAPG Eastern
Section Meeting on October 3-5, 2004.
Cornell came to St. Lawrence in the fall of 2005, after teaching courses in
oceanography, historical geology, sedimentology and stratigraphy at Juniata
College for a year. He is completing his Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati and
has published work in the Journal of Paleontology, Palaios and
Paleogeography, Paleoclimatology, Paleoecology (Paleo3).
