Sandy Boynton '69, professor in the humanities and social sciences
department at Schenectady County Community College, received the 2008
SCCC Foundation Award for Excellence in Scholarship and Creative
Activities.
Boynton joined the SCCC faculty in in 1991 as an assistant professor. She
was promoted to associate professor in 1994 and professor in 2000. Her
accomplishments include participating in the 2004 NEH Institute's Summer Workshop "Shakespeare's
Playhouses Inside and Out"; developing the Theatre in London
course/program at SCCC and producing and directing many productions
on campus. She holds a B.A. in English
from St. Lawrence and
an M.A. in theater from the University at Albany. The criteria for this award
includes "evidence of sound scholarship and creative productivity
demonstrated through a variety of avenues including grants, release time
and honors."
As an undergraduate, Boynton was elected to the English department honorary
society, the Irving
Bacheller Society, and she was a member of the Laurentian Singers and the
Mummers (drama organization). Boynton also won the Kirk Douglas Drama Award.
