Assistant Professor of Global Studies Martha Chew Sánchez gave a presentation
at New York University October 18, as part of a film screening and discussion
of Mexican corridos, the subject of her new book.
The Carribbean and Latin American Studies department at NYU sponsored a screening
of the film Al Otro Lado (To the Other Side), followed by a presentation
by the film's director, Natalia Almada, and a presentation by Sánchez
on her book, Corridos in Migrant Memory. Discussant for the
panel was NYU Associate Professor of Music Ana Maria Ochoa, author of
Músicas Locales en Tiempos de Globalización; moderator
was NYU Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis Juan Flores.
