Regional art exhibitions in Cooperstown and Potsdam, New York,
include the work of St. Lawrence University faculty and a student.
The 2007 North Country Regional exhibition at the Roland Gibson Gallery,
SUNY Potsdam, includes an untitled mezzoprint by Alexa Unser '08, of
Bozeman, Montana, and a lithograph, titled "Numb," by Assistant Professor
of Fine Arts Melissa Schulenberg. Schulenberg's work, which is also
on the cover of the exhibition's marketing card, won the Purchase Award.
There were 144 entries for the exhibition, with 43 works accepted.
This competitive exhibition, a long-standing northern New York tradition,
"draws the best efforts from community artists living within 150 miles of
Potsdam." It runs from July 7 through August 10.
A piece by Emeritus G.L. Flint Professor of Fine Arts J. Michael Lowe, "EHML II,"
won the Leatherstocking Region Federal Credit Union Prize in the 16th
Annual Regional Juried Art Show of the Cooperstown Art Association, "Essential
Art," which ran June 13 through July 15. The exhibition is open to artists
working in all mediums residing in New York State. Lowe was a St. Lawrence
faculty member from 1966 through 2003. He has exhibited work throughout
the United States and has won many awards.
