A St. Lawrence University graduate is in contention to represent the U.S. in
the Olympics next year, but he may wind up representing his country in a different
way, in a different place.
Travis L. (Lawton) Redman '98, of Florence, Vermont, is a biathlete who is expected
to earn a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team for the games in Salt Lake City. However,
Redman is also a member of a Vermont National Guard unit that specializes in
mountain warfare, and those skills may be needed, should the U.S. become engaged
in military activity in Afghanistan.
An environmental studies and biology major at St. Lawrence, Redman participated in
track, cross country and skiing while a student. The sports network ESPN recently
did a story on him; to read it, visit
their Web site.
