An essay by Associate Professor of Psychology Pamela Thacher received Honorable Mention in the 2009 North Country Writers Contest, hosted by SUNY Jefferson in Watertown.

A winner and an honorable mention were chosen in each of three categories for the contest, Fiction, Poetry and Essay/Non-Fiction. All six were invited to read their works at a reception on October 29; each also received a cash prize. The Writers Contest Reading and reception are part of a week-long Writers Festival at the college.

Thacher's essay is titled "How It Starts."
