Professor of Geology J. Mark Erickson recently received two honors from his alma mater, the University of North Dakota.

Erickson and three aother alumni were inducted into the University's School of Engineering and Mines Alumni Academy, created "to celebrate the achievements of alumni and to encourage and motivate current students in their academic pursuits." Each member of the academy has a plaque describing his or her accomplishments placed on campus.

Erikson also was awarded the the Arthur Gray Leonard Medal, conferred by faculty and alumni of the department of geology and geological engineering. The medal recognizes outstanding achievement in the geosciences in research, technical studies and projects applied to societal needs, teaching, educational development, or leadership in conservation of Earth's resources and environment.
