For the third time in the past four years, a St. Lawrence University student has won the Marleigh Grayer Ryan College Student Writing Prize for best student paper dealing with Asia, from the New York Conference on Asian Studies. Nora Langan '12 is the 2011 winner, for her paper titled "Sino-African Relations: Mutually Beneficial?" It was written for the course China's Rise, taught by Assistant Professor of Government Grace Huang.
Fernando Gomez '11 was the runner-up in the competition, for his paper titled "Cities of Dreams: Examining the Ideology of Colonial Architecture in India." It was written for a course taught by Associate Professor of Art History Chandreyi Basu.
Langan's and Gomez's papers are both available on the New York Conference on Asian Studies website.
