Ten St. Lawrence students recently took an afternoon fishing trip with 10 "buddies"
from St. Lawrence Central School, in a volunteer program assisted by Keith Curley '03,
of Trout Unlimited.
The group traveled to Coles Creek, Waddington, on a beautiful October afternoon for
the event, with gear supplied by Trout Unlimited. Each team of "fishing buddies" also received expert tips from Curley.
In addition to fishing, youngsters also collected insect samples.
St. Lawrence's Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership program and SLU Buddies helped with
organization for the event, which was so successful that planners hope to hold a
similar event in the spring. The event was a pilot program for Trout Unlimited,
which may use the model for a nationwide program, according to Curley.
