A painting by Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Kasarian Dane is included
in the exhibition "The Object and Beyond: 2008 Everson Biennial"
at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse. More than 266 artists residing in
the Central New York region submitted more than 1,000 works for
consideration by exhibition juror Edward Winkleman, an independent curator
and director of Winkleman Gallery in Chelsea, New York, who specializes
in contemporary art. He selected works by 55 artists for the exhibition,
opening June 13 and occupying all four galleries on the second floor of the museum.
The work by Dane is "Untitled (Original Six: Montreal, Toronto, Boston, Detroit,
Chicago, New York: Small Version)." It is, according to Dane, "a tribute to
the original six National Hockey League teams: the Montreal Canadians,
Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks
and New York Rangers." A large version of this painting was exhibited
in Dane's solo exhibition at the
Richard F. Brush Gallery on campus in 2007.
