A 1994 St. Lawrence University graduate has been appearing in the news media
frequently, for her expertise in how fears of terrorism are affecting the stock market.
Kari Bayer Pinkernell '94, a senior U.S. investment strategist with Merrill Lynch, has been
quoted in recent business stories in the New York Times, Business Week and
the Web site Business 2.0, and has appeared several times on CNN's financial news programs.
Bayer's opinion is being sought by the media because her firm is one of only a few that factor
terrorism and "geopolitical uncertainty" into its predictions.
An economics major at St. Lawrence, Pinkernell earned an MBA from New York University. She studied
in Vienna while a student at St. Lawrence, and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. As an
alumna, she's been active as a fund-raising and career advising volunteer and is a past member
of the University's Alumni Executive Council.
