Associate Professor of Education James Shuman, chair of the education department
at St. Lawrence, recently received the Service Key Award from the St. Lawrence
Valley Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International, an international association for professional educators.
Shuman was honored for his outstanding contributions to the chapter over the
past 15 years. According to the chapter's newsletter, Shuman "has been instrumental
in both the selection and presentation of outstanding student and sponsor teacher
awards and planning and facilitating several outstanding educational programs for
chapter members at St. Lawrence University." Shuman also recently was honored by
the New York State Association of Colleges for Teacher Education with the
Charles C. MacKay Excellence in Service Leadership Award for New York State.
Shuman was presented with the award by St. Lawrence Director of
the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (C-STEP) Carol A. Kissam.
Kissam also directs the University's McNair Scholars Program.
