John T. Murphy, Jr. '11, of Carthage, NY, has been selected to participate in the third annual Geological Society of America/ExxonMobil Bighorn Basin Field Seminar in Wyoming. The selective program for faculty and students emphasizes multidisciplinary integrated basin analysis.
A geology major with a minor in chemistry, Murphy will begin graduate studies at the State University of New York at Binghamton in the fall. The field seminar offers an opportunity for up to 20 undergraduate and graduate students, and five faculty members, to "learn practical, multidisciplinary, integrated basin exploration" in a one-week intensive field course.
Murphy was awarded a University Fellowship in 2010, and has served as president of the Geology Club.
